Free plants - take cuttings in hardwood October/November 10/11/2018 More free plants! October / November is the time to take hard wood cuttings. You need a healthy bush that has put on some good growth this year which is just turning from bendy green wood to firmer brown wood. The cutting needs to end up about the length of a pencil, with a straight cut under a bud at the bottom of the cutting, and an angled cut just above a bud at the top. The angled cut is to help rain slide off the shoot rather than seep into it and cause rot. Fill large plastic pots

The wilderness and ladybirds 08/21/2018 I was just collecting yellow rattle seeds from the wilderness area and delighted to see heaps of ladybirds in the area. Its when you get down close to these wildflowers that you spot all the mini-creatures!

Judging village gardens 07/28/2018 Had a super evening judging the village gardens in Johnshaven. It was great to see the effort made by the garden owners, novice and experienced. A lovely way to get people involved, charming to look at for all the villagers and visitors.
